German Diction Masterprogram for Singers

Elevate your performance with clarity & confidence!

Imagine yourself standing next to the grand piano – ready for your performance.
The next piece is by Franz Schubert. You feel calm, because the German text is as familiar to you as an old friend.
You haven’t just understood its meaning – you’ve truly internalized and lived it.
With subtle articulation, you trace the bizarre emotional landscapes of the song.
The consonants guide your legato line, while the vowels carry your warm and resonant vocal tone.
Suddenly, singing in German is no longer an obstacle – it becomes a source of expression, depth, and joy – for both you and your audience.
You feel: this moment is yours. And with your voice, you create moments of happiness that linger.

What a wonderful feeling.

Is this for you? Absolutely – if…

you're currently studying classical voice,

you've completed a vocal degree,

I’d like to introduce myself in just a few lines:

My name is Robert Sawilla, and I love classical singing in all its forms – whether Lied or opera.
German art song holds a special place in my heart, not least because I am fortunate to live in Austria, where I can visit the very cradles of German musical heritage.
I felt sadness in Schubert’s death house, and was deeply moved standing in Brahms’ apartment in Vienna’s 4th district.

I looked out the same window Beethoven once did in the Pasqualatihaus, and sat in the very spot where Mozart lived and composed, in his apartment on Domgasse 5 in the heart of Vienna.
Deep in the woods of Carinthia, I listened to the same birdsong that once inspired Gustav Mahler in his little composing hut.

I’ve walked the very paths in Baden near Vienna where Beethoven once sought solace.
All these places have strengthened my deep connection to music.
As a native German speaker born and raised in Austria, I have absorbed the nuances of German diction both musically and linguistically from the very start – literally with my mother’s milk!

But beyond that, I bring years of experience as a trained opera singer, voice therapist, and speech pathologist with a deep passion for phonetics and linguistic precision.

Examples and Text Analyses

Such as of Pamina’s aria “Ach, ich fühl’s” or “Frühlingsglaube”, are included.

Having worked with international singers at AIMS (American Institute of Musical Studies) and in my vocal studio in Graz, I understand the unique challenges non-native speakers face.
Over the past years, I’ve had the privilege of working on some of the most beautiful art songs and arias with students and professional singers from a wide range of linguistic and cultural backgrounds – including artists from the United States, South Korea, Taiwan, Spain, Portugal, Scandinavia, the Baltic States, Slavic-speaking countries, as well as France and China.

This course bridges the gap between clear diction and healthy vocal technique, ensuring your pronunciation enhances – not hinders – your sound.
And for all members of the extended AIMS family, I’m offering an exclusive AIMS bonus – a special discount of approximately 35%.

Yes, the program truly delivers – just ask Alexis Langlois, who experienced the transformation firsthand:
"Working with Robert Sawilla is truly a special experience.
He goes beyond teaching German diction – he ensures that his students have an in-depth understanding of the language, the nuances, and cultural context.
His thoughtful approach takes his lessons a step beyond, and I highly recommend getting to work with him."

The result?

A clear, resonant, and effortless German diction that supports your vocal technique.

Confidence in singing German repertoire without second-guessing pronunciation.

A natural, expressive way of delivering the text — so the meaning shines through!

Take the next step!

If you don’t refine your German and your diction remains unpolished, singing freely in the German language may remain a challenge.
Poor pronunciation can become a significant obstacle, especially when auditioning in German-speaking countries.
In most auditions, at least one aria in German is expected – for sopranos, it is often Pamina’s aria from Die Zauberflöte.
This is particularly relevant for highly sought-after chorus positions at opera houses in Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.
Even in the solo repertoire, proficiency in German is highly valued when it comes to contract negotiations and casting decisions.
Lack of linguistic clarity can limit opportunities, both in ensemble and solo work.

So take this opportunity now to improve your German for singing – don’t let this beautiful language become a stumbling block in your career.
Prepare yourself today for a successful future.

Ethan McGrath, composer, pianist and repetitor, affirms in his feedback that the program is highly suitable even for advanced singers – highlighting its depth, nuance, and pedagogical clarity:
"Robert's teaching completely dispels the myth that German is a harsh language, showing how even the many consonant sounds can help rather than hinder a sense of lyricism and legato line in singing."

This structured, easy-to-follow course is designed with busy singers in mind – so you can start seeing (and hearing!) results right away.
This course consists of 15 lessons, presented in content and exercise videos.

As mentioned above, all AIMS participants receive a 35% discount, valued at €175.
This means that all AIMS members who enter the code:

AIMS2025 in Digistore24 will

pay only €325 instead of €500.

You're also welcome to pay this amount in three monthly installments.

You can join at any time — but if you register before June 1st, you'll receive access to all the videos before your arrival in Graz, so you'll be perfectly prepared.
